Taylor Spesak – 56 saves vs Utah
It was 6’3″ goalie Taylor Spesak of Loyola-Marymount who stole the show at the ACHA Western Regionals yestersday in Flagstaff, Arizona.
LMU was in the Western Regionals for the first time and took on #4 seed Utah. Spesak, from Valencia, Ca., was spectacular with 56 saves from all sorts of hard shots and angles to keep LMU in the game right down to the final precious second. Utah hung on to win 2-1 and LMU fans lit up their twitter last night.
It was UNLV which beat LMU twice on their home ice earlier this year. UNLV, getting great games from goalies Kyle Kimsey and Ryan Rivera, won 4-3, 6-4 last November 8-9. Those wins put UNLV into the Western Top 10 rankings but the Rebels later dropped out of the Top 10 and did not qualify for the playoffs.
Spesak played two seasons with D3 College of the Canyons and is in his second season at LMU.
Utah State – Top Seed at Western Regionals
