Help the UNLV Rebels Roller Team Go to the US Nationals

The powerful, nationally ranked UNLV Rebels roller team has a fundraiser underway to help get the club to the U.S. Nationals in Independence, Mo. on April 8-11.

The UNLV players will depart next Tuesday, April 7.

Tuesday – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas and WHL Kelowna Rockets Win Again, Take 3-0 Series Lead

Kennewick, Washington – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas and the WHL Kelowna Rockets broke to a two-goal lead and beat the Tri City Americans 5-3 before 3257 at the Toyota Center on Tuesday night. Kelowna, a division champion, has a 3-0 lead in the Best of Seven playoff series. Beau McCue, a Nevada Storm alum when he was a bantam skater in Las Vegas, had 2 goals and was +2 on the ice. Beau, a very popular player here, was picked the #3 Star of the Game.

Game Four is here Wednesday night.

Zach Pochiro of Las Vegas and the WHL Prince George Cougars are on home ice tonight against the Victoria Royals in Game 3 of a Best of Seven. Victoria leads the series 2-0.

“It was a great experience for our players. Anytime you can play in a US National tournament is a great opportunity for young players to get needed experience. Our best best players over the weekend were Cameron Zucker, Romio Scallion and Joe Terrana.

“Unfortunately we had a few injuries which hurt us. Steven Avalone suffered an upper leg injury in the first game and even though he battled through it, he had trouble playing at his normal level of play. Also, Cody Printzen suffered a leg injury as well. But they both battled through it and they each gave me all they had.”

It was Super Sunday with some big games:

//Chris Francis of Las Vegas scored his 25th goal – his most ever in an season while playing in the ECHL – as the Alaska Aces beat the Stockton Thunder 4-2 before 5104 at the Stockton Arena. Chris has had an awesome season – 25 goals, 34 assists for 59 points. The Aces have another week of regular season games to pin down a playoff spot.

//Drew Schilletter of Las Vegas and the AA Arizona Hockey Union 18u lost to Team Ohio Black 7-2 in a Final 8 Game at the US Nationals in Troy, Michigan. Drew and AHU finished 2-2-0 overall.

//Brendan Harris had an assist as he and Las Vegas teammate Ryan Chiasson of the NAHL Wenatchee Wild closed out the regular season today in a 3-2 OT/Shootout loss to the Topeka Roadrunners before 2174 at the Toyota Town Center. Wenatchee was 2-0-1 this weekend against a strong Topeka club which finished 2nd in their division. Both teams are qualified for the NAHL playoffs. Brendan wound up with 16 goals, 28 assists for 44 points. He was +10 on the ice in the regular season.

Victoria BC – Zach Pochiro of Las Vegas scored late in the second period for the WHL Prince George Cougars in a tough 5-4 loss to the Victoria Cougars in a playoff game before 5545 at the Save On Foods Memorial Arena. Zach and the Cougars rallied to tie 4-4 when Victoria scored the winning goal with about 5 minutes to play. Victoria leads 2-0 in the Best of Seven series. It was Zach’s first goal in the playoffs and his 20th overall this season.

Kelowna BC – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas had an assist for the WHL Kelowna Rockets who held off the Tri City Americans 3-0 to win Game Two of a Best of Seven playoff series.  The crowd was 5639 at the Prospera Place. The Rockets, a powerful club, have won the first two playoff games against Tri-City.

Stockton, Ca – Chris Francis of Las Vegas had 2 assists tonight for the ECHL Alaska Aces in a 5-4 OT/Shootout win over the Stockton Thunder at the Stockton Arena. This was an important win for the Aces who are in an all-out battle with the Utah Grizzlies for the last available playoff spot. The crowd was 5216. Chris has 24 goals, 34 assists for 58 points this season. Goalie Troy Redmann, who years ago played for the AAA L.A. Jr Kings, was in the net for the Aces.

Wenatchee, Washington – Brendan Harris, Ryan Chiasson of Las Vegas and the NAHL Wenatchee Wild worked to a 4-3 win over a very strong Topeka Roadrunners club before a big crowd of 2976 at the Toyota Town Center. Wenatchee beat Topeka as well here Friday night. The two teams close out the regular season here on Sunday. Both clubs are qualified for the NAHL playoffs.

Fairbanks – In his final game of the season, Joseph Kaszupski of Las Vegas and the NAHL Kenai River Brown Bears battled hard in a 5-4 loss to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs before 2242 at the Big Dipper. Outside the rink doors tonight it was clear and 39-degrees. Joseph and his Kenai River teammates will return home on a 10 1/2 southbound bus trip from Fairbanks to Kenai River, Alaska. The Ice Dogs will be in the NAHL playoffs.

Corpus Christi, Texas – Landon Quinney of Las Vegas and the NAHL Corpus Christi IceRays closed out their regular season with a 4-2 win over the Amarillo Bulls before 4993 at the American Bank Center. Landon wore jersey #17. The IceRays are now getting set for the NAHL playoffs.

Stockton, California – Chris Francis scored his 22nd, 23rd and 24th goals and added an assist for the ECHL Alaska Aces who beat the Stockton Thunder 10-2 before 4141 at the Stockton Arena. Chris, who was named the #2 Star of the Game, and the Aces are battling for a playoff spot in their division. Chris has 24 goals, 32 assists for 56 points this season.

Kelowna BC – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas had an assist for the WHL Kelowna Rockets who opened a Best of Seven playoff series with a 6-0 win over the Tri City Americans before 5369. The Rockets had more shots 30-18.

Wenatchee, Washington – Brendan Harris dealt an assist in the third period and was +2 on the ice to help the NAHL Wenatchee Wild beat a very strong Topeka Roadrunners team 3-1 before 2894 at the Town Toyota Center. The two teams close out the regular season here on Saturday night. Wenatchee has clinched a playoff spot. Brendan has 16 goals, 27 assists for 43 points this season.

It’s playoff weekend in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Best of Seven games getting underway Friday evening.

Gage Quinney of Las Vegas and the WHL Kelowna Rockets beat the Tri City Americans 6-0 to open a Best of Seven playoff series.

Zach Pochiro of Las Vegas and the WHL Prince George Cougars lost 5-3 to the Victoria Royals to open a Best of Seven playoff series. Game two will be at Victoria again on Saturday night.

Also on Friday:

Ethan Montoya of Las Vegas and the AAA Ontario Avalanche 18u lost 6-4 to the Central Connecticut Selects at the US Nationals in Amherst, N.Y.

Drew Schilletter of Las Vegas and the AA Arizona Hockey Union 18u are 2-0-0 at the US Nationals in Troy, Michigan.  Drew and AHU have wins over Twin Bridges Missouri 6-1 and the Fairbanks Arctic Cats 5-1.  AHU takes on #7-nationally ranked Sylvania North Stars tomorrow to complete opening round action.  Drew and AHU are already qualified for the Final 8 this weekend.
