Kearney, Nebraska – Joey Raats of Las Vegas and the USHL Sioux Falls Stampede took an early lead and worked to a 3-2 win over the Tri City Storm before 2375 at the Viaero Event Center. The Storm won Game One 4-2. The Best of Five is tied 1-1. Game Three will be at Sioux Falls on Friday night.

Two AAA Las Vegas Storm alums – Kenny and Christian Hausinger – received NAHL awards. Kenny, with 25 goals, 43 assists, 68 points for the NAHL Odessa Jackalopes, was named to the All Rookie Team. Christian, with 7 goals, 24 assists, 31 points for Odessa, was named to the NAHL Southern Division Rookie All-Star team. Both are committed to Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

Sunday, April 26, 2015 St. Paul, Minn. – With a few seconds left to play the song ‘You Make Me Want to Shout’ by the Isley Brothers blasted in the Xcell Energy Arena. It was time to celebrate as Jason Zucker of Las Vegas and the NHL Minnesota Wild worked hard and played spectacularly to eliminate a strong St. Louis Blues team 4-1. The Wild won the Best of Seven, 4-2. Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk in his post-game interview said “…the key to winning is being patient, playing within our system and believing in ourselves.” Now Jason and the Wild will take on the Chicago Blackhawks in the next round. This is the 3rd straight time the Wild and Blackhawks have played against each other in the post-season. The Wild has been in the NHL Final 8 three straight years.

Jason Zucker of Las Vegas and the NHL Minnesota Wild can close out the Best of Seven with the St. Louis Blues on Sunday afternoon. The Wild leads the series, 3-2, and want to clinch it on home ice at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  Game Seven, if needed, is at St. Louis.

Elsewhere: Joey Raats of Las Vegas and the USHL Sioux Falls Stampede had their playoff game postponed against the Tri City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska on Saturday night. There was a broken water pipe underneath the ice; it will take a few days to repair.

Here are three key playoff matchups involving Las Vegas skaters tonight:

AHL

Zach Pochiro and the AHL Chicago Wolves are on home ice tonight taking on the Utica Comets at the All State Arena.  Utica won the first game 3-2 in double OT. This is a Best of Five series.

WHL

Gage Quinney and the WHL Kelowna Rockets open a big series against the Portland Winterhawks for the Western Conference Championship. The two teams have not played against each other since November 21-22. Gage has 4 goals, 3 assists in playoff games this year. Kelowna and Portland are in a Best of Seven.

USHL

Joey Raats and the USHL Sioux Falls Stampede are on the road in Game One, taking on a strong Tri City Storm team in Kearney, Nebraska. Kirk Brooks of Las Vegas is the owner of the Tri City club.  Sioux Falls upset the Sioux City Musketeers in the first round of the playoffs. Sioux Falls vs Tri City is a Best of Five with the first two games at Tri City and Game Five, if necessary, at Tri City.

The WSHL Las Vegas Storm announced that Jaerden Morgan, who joined the team late in the season, committed to the University of Utah for 2015-16. Jaerden played in nine games for the Storm and had one goal, scoring against the Phoenix Knights.
