Ice Fog Postpones Landon Quinney’s Game in Brandon, Manitoba

Brandon, Manitoba, Canada – It got real foggy on the ice in the second period Saturday night and officials stopped the game between Landon Quinney of Las Vegas with the WHL Moose Jaw Warriors who were playing the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westman Place Arena. Moose Jaw had a 2-1 lead. Officials said a two-day rain and 100% humidty outside was the reason for the ice fog inside the arena. The game will resume on November 2 officials said.

Also on Saturday…

//Brendan Harris of Las Vegas had an assist for the BCHL Wenachee Wild who beat the Vernon Vipers 6-3 at Prospera Place in Chilliwack, BC. Wenatchee, coached by Bliss Littler, is off to a 4-0-1 start. Brendan leads all Las Vegas players away from home in scoring with 4 goals, 7 assists for 11 points.

//Jimmy Samuels of Las Vegas and ACHA Kansas University lost a road game, 5-0 to Iowa State. KU is now 2-1-0 this season.

//In Texas Vincent Dekumbis – the star goal scorer who played two seasons for the WSHL Las Vegas Storm – scored a tricky backhand short-handed goal for the NA3HL Texas Jr Brahmas in a 5-2 loss to the Euless Jr Stars on Saturday.  On Friday, Vincent assisted on a powerplay goal in a 5-1 win over Euless Jr Stars. Both games were at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter.

Provo, Utah – New UNLV goalie Erik Eidissen got a shutout win as the Rebels battled past Weber State, 3-0, here Saturday night at the Peaks Ice Arena. Erik, from Sweden, is listed at 6’1, 185. Last season he played at Dakota College in Bottineau, N.D. 

UNLV again got balanced scoring with Viktor Brask, Cody Williams and Dion Antisin getting goals.

“It was huge winning this game. I’m so proud of all of our guys,” said UNLV head coach Anthony Greener. “We are giving the boys a day off to rest after such a huge week in Utah. It’s great to start the season with five wins in a row.”

UNLV is off to a great start at 5-0-0. They play Weber State next next Friday night at the Las Vegas Ice Center.

San Jose – Zack McClanahan scored two goals – his 6th, 7th of the weekend – and Alex Hone also scored for the AAA Nevada Storm 16u in a 5-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks at the San Jose Jamboree.

Storm head coach Micah Sanford said “…we were tied 3-3 going into the third period, then made a couple of turnovers which cost us. Overall we played ok but we have some things to correct.”

Anthony Bonaldi was in the net for the Storm.

San Jose – In the evening game Alex Furst had two goals, Cody Printzen had one goal in a 4-3 loss to the Portland Winterhawks.  Cody Birchill was the goalie for the AAA Nevada Storm 16u.

Jimmy Samuels of Las Vegas and the Kansas University hockey team are driving to Iowa State to take on one of the best teams in their divisions Saturday night. KU is off to a 2-0-0 start with wins over Creighton.

San Jose – Zack McClanahan scored five times, Alex Furst one goal, Cameron Zucker one, Nicholas Gates one and Romeo Scallion one as the AAA Nevada Storm 16u beat the Utah Renegades 9-1 in the opening game at the San Jose Jamboree.

“We’ve made drastic improvements from last week. Coach Naglich and I are very happy with the progress our team is making,” said Las Vegas coach Micah Sanford.

Cameron Birchill was in the net. The Storm will take on the San Jose Sharks here Saturday, 12:45 pm.

North Logan, Utah – In their biggest game of the new season 4-0-0 UNLV had balanced scoring to work past Western Top 10 rival Utah State 5-2 at the Eccles Ice Arena.

“This is such a big win for our UNLV program,” said UNLV head coach Anthony Greener. “This sets the tone for the entire Western Region. We still have one game left on this trip against Weber State and we need to keep the foot to the paddle.”

UNLV got an awesome game too from star goalie Terry Martin.

“Terry had a huge game….made two breakaway saves…the great Terry we all know. He was amazing,” Greener said.

UNLV, off to a great start this season, is now heading to Provo, Utah to take on Weber State on Saturday night.

Chilliwack BC – Brendan Harris of Las Vegas scored a short-handed goal, dealt two assists and was selected the #2 Star of the Game for the BCHL Wenatchee Wild in a tough 5-4 OT loss to the Powell River Kings. The game was at the Prospera Centre. Outside the rink doors it was a cool rainy night.

Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada – Down two goals early Landon Quinney of Las Vegas and the WHL Moose Jaw Warriors rallied to tie the Brandon Wheat 2-2 with 4.7 seconds to play in regulation, then scored 29 seconds into OT to win spectacularly 3-2 in OT on Opening Night at the Mosaic Place.

GAGE QUINNEY IN PENGUINS TRAINING CAMP

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Gage Quinney of Las Vegas is listed on the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins training camp roster. He was an invite to a Penguins developmental camp earlier this year. Gage, 21, is listed at 6’1, 201. There are 60 players in the Penguins camp.

Gage played in the Las Vegas Storm hockey programs on 16u, 18u teams at the Las Vegas Ice Center. Gage’s younger brother Landon is returning for his second season with the WHL Moose Jaw Warriors. Gage’s hockey dad Ken played in the NHL with the Quebec Nordiques and for years was a star goal scorer and a very popular player with the IHL Las Vegas Thunder.
