Las Vegas – Up and down the ice UNLV’s #16 Dion Antisin blazed and he wasn’t just trying to score goals. He burned about defensively as well, digging for loose pucks and roughing up Boston University puck carriers.
Then, suddenly, in the third period he was gone – out of the game.
Dion got slashed badly in a hand late in the second period. Or, as UNLV head coach Anthony Greener said after a 5-2 win “…he’s going to need about 12 stitches. He is going to see our team doctor. We are hoping for good news.”
Greener added “all of our lines were buzzing tonight. It was a real good two periods, sloppy third.”
UNLV’s great depth came into play in the third period as Boston U, with Dion gone, turned up the temperature with hard physical action which cranked a large hot energized hometown crowd which was really into the game Friday night at the SoBe Ice Arena.
UNLV had to deal with a well-coached Boston U team which had good puck movement and lasered late-game hard shots at Eidissen who made flashy glove saves.
Antisin, pre slash, had two goals and Nicklas Giers, Tristan Mayer and Cody Williams also scored. UNLV raised its season record to 9-1-0.
FROM THE BLUE LINE – UNLV captain Axle Anderton had one of his best games…Ethan Montoya was very strong on penalty kills blocking shots and knocking pucks away….UNLV’s Jake Saxe jetted around the ice faster than anyone on either team….BU early in the game struggled with its tight power play setup early so it was reconfigured into a wider, more spread powerplay attack in the third period. It was interesting to see the BU coaches adjust their play.
UNLV’s unofficial GM Gramps was at the game as was the great roller star Adam Tamura of Las Vegas…BU’s season record is 3-2-0…Game two of this series is here Saturday afternoon. Faceoff 4:15 pm…Next weekend one of UNLV’s most fierce rivals – Long Beach State – comes into town.
