Ahead of the upcoming senior night on Saturday where we are honoring each of our graduating Skatin’ Rebels, we will talk with each of them to reminisce on their time with UNLV Hockey.

Skatin’ Rebels goaltender Terry Martin is often referred to as “the backbone of the team” by coaches and teammates – that was especially accurate last season, when he was in net for 23 of the team’s 26 regular season games, en route to UNLV’s trip to the regional tournament. Thus far, he has played 44 games in a Rebels jersey with a 27-13-1 record, 3.39 GAA, and a 0.902 SV%.

“It feels amazing to be a part of the growing process of the team and to live in Las Vegas while doing it,” Martin said.

Following this school year, Martin, a biology major, heads to Toronto to pursue his Doctorate degree at the University of Waterloo.

“I feel so lucky that I could spend these four years here. I woke up every day, living in the most exciting city,” he said. “One thing I would say to future recruits is that this was the most fun I’ve had playing hockey my whole life – I’ve played all over the world!”

Martin’s most fond memories from his time as a Skatin’ Rebel included being in the regional championship final last season, and getting to play on some new NHL ice.

“Getting the win at T-Mobile Arena against ASU was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had,” Martin said.

Some of the most important things he learned throughout his time with UNLV Hockey included time management and fighting through perseverance.

He also sees the continued fan support as one of the most positive things about his time on the team, and thanks them for their dedication to the team.

“Even when our team was under .500 we still had fans showing up to cheer us on,” Martin said. “To our new fans – it only gets better from here. Every year that you see our team, we will continue to be the best team you’ve seen at UNLV.”
