Las Vegas – There seems to be an endless number of great teams in the Western State Hockey League this winter and there is another one – the WSHL Utah Outliers – who are heading into the Las Vegas Center to take on the WSHL Las Vegas Storm in a three-game series beginning Thursday 7 pm.

Las Vegas is a best-ever 22-18-3 and qualified for the upcoming WSHL playoffs. Utah is 24-16-3. Las Vegas is coming off a wildly entertaining 1-1-1 weekend against the powerful Valencia Flyers. The big win was 4-1 over Valencia in the opening game of that series. Utah is coming off a 1-2-0 weekend against a division leading force in the Idaho Jr Steelheads – winning the first game 3-2 in overtime, then losing 2-0, 2-0 in the final two games of that ultra heated weekend series.

Utah’s team is from Salt Lake City and they play home games at the Accord Ice Center which has an Olympic-sized sheet of ice in West Valley, Utah. Their big goal scorer is Viktor Tyutchenko from Prokopievsk, Russia. Viktor, 20, is playing his first season in the U.S. In just 19 games he has 26 goals, 21 assists for Utah. Viktor scored twice in Utah’s win over Idaho last weekend.

Gabe Gauthier, GM/Head coach of Las Vegas said today “This will be another very good and challenging weekend. Utah has been getting stronger as we have been as well. We do have a couple of players who are day to day with minor injuries.”

Las Vegas is down to its final nine games of the regular season. The WSHL playoffs will then get underway. At the moment Las Vegas would take on the San Diego Sabers in a three-game playoff series – but all of that is still to be determined.

Game times for Las Vegas vs Utah this week are 7 pm Thursday, 6 pm on Friday and Saturday at the Las Vegas Ice Center. All games will be on the North Rink.
