The UNLV Rebels are looking to make a historic run at the ACHA D2 Western Regionals in Greeley Colorado and advance to the U.S. Nationals – going where no UNLV Rebels team, and there have been many great ones – have been before.
Game time is 4 pm local time.
UNLV needs two wins to advance. The Rebels, 28-7-0 and the top seed at the Western Regionals, take on Metro State Denver in their first game. Metro State eliminated a very good Cal Northridge team 5-2 on Thursday.
“We are ready to go. The boys are very excited,” UNLV head coach Anthony Greener reported during a team dinner on the eve of their first eliminator game.
UNLV was constructed to win this season as coaches Greener and Nick Robone worked hard in the off season and added two elite goalies in Erik Eidissen and Alex Feese and recruited and signed top defensemen including Niklas Giers who is one of the Rebels all-time d-men. With three goalies including Terry Martin and an elite defensive corps UNLV had a huge run and was ranked West #2 during much of the season.
Yet, bigtime teams like UNLV must win when it counts and all games here are eliminators.
Win, you move on. Lose, the season is over.
Let’s look at UNLV vs Metro State this season:
