ACHA D2 Western Regionals
Greeley, Colorado – With the clock ticking down UNLV’s greatest goal scorer Cody Williams worked on a set faceoff play with linemate Tristan Mayer with less than two minutes to play. The puck was moved over to Cody who skated across the Metro State Denver net area and he blue-streaked a five-hole blast into the net here on Friday.
Cody’s dramatic goal gave UNLV a 4-3 lead.
There was 1:33 left to play.
It was one of Cody’s greatest game-winning goals as UNLV’s defense held back late rushes by Metro State Denver to win a Final 8 game at the ACHA D2 Western Regionals 4-3.
This leaves UNLV with one more game to play here Saturday. If UNLV wins they will take a ride to the U.S. Nationals, a place where no UNLV team has ever been in the great rich history of the Rebels program.
It’s not certain who UNLV will play next. It may be #6 seed Denver or #8 seed Weber State if they get past Northern Colorado in a Final 8 game late tonight.
And like UNLV coach Anthony Greener predicted no team has had an easy ride in the first round. UNLV is the top seed here. The next best seed Utah State had to go into overtime to put away a very game and hard playing San Diego State team 6-5.
Dion Antisin scored twice for UNLV, the first goal and goal number three which was a short-handed wraparound. Tristan Mayer, working on the top line with Cody Williams and Viktor Brask, scored the second UNLV goal. It was assisted by Niklas Giers, who is a tremendous Rebels defensive player.
While all of this dramatic-ness was swirling around UNLV got a tremendous effort from goalie Alex Feese who got the victory.

UNLV – Dion Antisin – powerplay – 29th goal this season – assists Cody Williams, Bas Assaf
