Gilbert, Arizona – Nikita Pintusov scored his 40th, 41st, 42nd goals and teammate Ted Astrom also had three goals for the WSHL Las Vegas Storm which beat the WSHL Phoenix Knights 13-2 on Sunday to clinch home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the Fresno Monsters.

Las Vegas needed to win all three games here this weekend and they did it. The Storm and the Fresno Monsters finished the regular season with the same record of 25-22-5. The difference was in head to head games the Storm was 4-2-0 over a rough, physical Fresno team.

Las Vegas Storm GM/Head coach Gabe Gauthier confirmed his club will have home ice advantage vs Fresno in the first round of the WSHL playoffs.

Goal scorers for Las Vegas on Sunday were Nikita Pintusov with 3, Ted Astrom 3, Amandus Laukkanen 2 plus goals from Joey Allegrini, Jake McKenna, Jean Christophe Lachapelle, Jeffery Morgan and Melwin Thorrson.  Goalie Brooks Dimarino, who started all three games here this weekend, got the win.

Elsewhere in the WSHL on Sunday – Eric Williams of Las Vegas had one goal, one assist for the WSHL Ontario Avalanche in a 5-3 win over the San Diego Sabers. Ontario and San Diego will battle in a first round playoff matchup in two weeks….The Phoenix Knights will close out their season next week against the Superior Roughriders in Colorado.

Gilbert, Arizona –  This is it, the final regular season game for the WSHL Las Vegas Storm when they take on the WSHL Phoenix Knights this afternoon at Arizona Ice.

And next comes the playoffs for Las Vegas.

Here is how the first round looks for the Storm who play in the WSHL’s Western Division. The two top teams, Long Beach Bombers and Valencia Flyers, have first round byes. Two teams, the Phoenix Knights and Arizona Hawks, are not in the playoffs.

That leaves these four Western Division teams to sort out the first round playoff matchups.

Take a look:

#3 Ontario Avalanche 30-16-2, 62 points – 4 games to play

#4 Fresno Monsters 25-22-5, 55 team points – regular season over

#5 Las Vegas Storm 24-22-5, 53 team points – plays Phoenix today

#6 San Diego Sabers 24-24-3, 51 team points – plays Ontario Avalanche today in final regular season game.

As it stands now, Ontario would take on San Diego and Las Vegas would face Fresno. These will be a Best of Three playoff series. The teams with the higher seed gets the home arena advantage
