Las Vegas –  Cameron Zucker and Anthony Rodriguez Jr scored for the Micah Sanford-coached AAA Nevada Storm 16u who battled to a 2-1 win over the AAA Alaska Blue Devils 16u in the opening game of the Pacific District Regionals at the Las Vegas Ice Center.

This is the biggest tournament of the season as it is the only route to advance to the U.S. Nationals.

Nevada Storm goalie Anthony Bonaldi had 25 saves.

Coach Micah said “Zach McClenahan, Cameron Zucker and Aidan McNabb all played well as forwards. Alex Hone and Matt Valdez played well for the D. Anthony Bonaldi in the net played well.

“We controlled the first two periods of the game out-playing them all over the ice. The third period we did not play as well but did well enough to win the game. We took too many penalities and hopefully we fix that my tomorrow.”

The field of AAA 16u teams here is loaded with powers like nationally-ranked AAA Anaheim Jr Ducks, AAA Everett Silvertips and the AAA L.A. Jr Kings.

On Friday the Nevada Storm takes on the AAA LA Jr. Kings who are coached by a legend, Jack Bowkus.  The game starts at 4 pm.

Only one team from this Pacific District Regional will advance to the U.S. Nationals.
