Las Vegas – It got dicey but the UNLV Rebels finished strong and took apart a game Williston State 7-4 before a large crowd on a rare Monday night game.

UNLV blasted to a quick four goal lead and then the game took a physical twist allowing Williston to put together a mid-game rally at the new City National Arena

But two goals apiece from hometown goal scorer Cody Williams and the gifted sharpshooter Elijiah Barriga got the Rebels on a roll to raise their season record to 6-3-0. Mike McDaniel was in the net for the Rebels.  Williston, on a brutal  9-games in 12 days road trip, returns here Tuesday night and then heads to Prescott, Arizona to take on Utah State, San Jose State and NAU – then the team bus heads to Colorado for the last game of its road swing. Williston, a powerful force in ACHA D2 last winter is now 3-5-0 and unrated in ACHA D1.

From The Blue Line – UNLV head coach Anthony Greener was on the Rebels bench, assistant coach Nick Robone was in the stands watching the game. Nick, whose hockey Dad and Mom were at the game, said he will return to the UNLV bench “at our next home stand.” ….there were a lot of hard checks in this game. Rebels athletic trainer Kendall Galor was busy attending to players on both teams …Williston got an excellent game from its captain Chris Hille particularly when Williston was down four goals early and he told his teammates to keep their focus wired in …UNLV’s captain Jake Kearley is such a leader on the ice and is unquestionably one of the best ever d-men in Rebels hockey history. …That was Adam Naglich, one of the all time Vegas great goal scorers, at the game – and so was Wally Lacroix, the last Las Vegas coach of Jason Zucker when he was 14 1/2 playing on an AAA Nevada Storm 16u team at the Las Vegas Ice Center quite a few years ago…Also in the cold arena was the Rebels unofficial GM Gramps who watched the game from center ice.
