Las Vegas – The UNLV Rebels shook out in a scheduled practice 8 am this morning on home ice at City National Arena, had a team breakfast, then geared up for a 1 pm flight to head today for Ames, Iowa – home of the #12 ranked Iowa State Cyclones hockey club for a two-game weekend road series.

“Team dinner in Iowa tonight, then practice again Friday morning there and get ready for the two games,” said Anthony Greener, head coach of the Rebels. “Everyone is healthy on our end for the most part.

“Iowa State has a big hard-hitting team. Not flashy but they do the little things to win. We will need to compete for a full 60 minutes each night,” Greener added. “We will set our first game lineup following our Friday pre-game skate.”

Iowa State is 8-2-0 and has been involved in a number of intense, tight low-scoring games. Iowa State goalie Derek Moser is 5-1-0 with a 1.29 gaa and a 95.9% save percentage and goalie Matt Goedeke is 3-1-0 with a 1.75 gaa and a 93.1 save percentage. Those are outstanding numbers. Iowa State’s number one goal scorer is #7 Tony Uglem with 7 goals, 7 assists – with two game-winning goals as well.

Iowa State is ranked #12, UNLV #14 in this showdown of ACHA D1 Top 20 teams. Last weekend Iowa State beat Arkansas 7-0, 3-2.

UNLV, in its first season of ACHA D1, is having an awesome season with a record of 7-3-0. The top goal scorers include Elijiah Barriga with 7 goals, Joseph Kaszupski 6, Matthew Painchaud 6, Cody Williams 4, Jonas Gordon 3, DAndre John 3, Tristan Mayer 3 and Jake Saxe 3.

UNLV has a premier star goalie in Ben Giesbrecht who has a 5-3-0 record, 2.12 gaa and a 91.5% save percentage.

Both games – Friday, Saturday – at Iowa State this weekend have a 7:30 pm local time start.
