Wedding Bells for Star Goal Scorer Kyle Callahan of Las Vegas

WEDDING BELLS ARE RINGING

Las Vegas star goal scorer Kyle Callahan married his sweetheart Shelby at a lovely sunset setting in Stephenson, Michigan.  Kyle was a team leader on many Las Vegas teams including the Las Vegas Outlaws bantams, Las Vegas Ice Cats midgets and Arizona Hockey Union where his coach was Kurt Goar. Kyle also skated several seasons for Dan Corsatea’s Las Vegas Aces pro roller team at the Sahara Roller Rink. Kyle’s younger brother Gunnar – the young artist who created Johnnie Gold in the Vegashockey.net holiday story “Just in Time for Christmas the Unstoppable Johnnie Gold,” was with his older brother. Hockey mom Wendy so happy for Kyle and Shelby. Kyle’s Las Vegas ice hockey coaches included James McDermott, Adam Kilbourne and Matt Stang.

Boulder, Colorado – Late night game video doesn’t fib. When UNLV head coach Anthony Greener studied who exactly was scoring for Colorado University he blue-penciled numbers #21, #77 and #10. That is the top line for Colorado and according to coach Greener “we need to shut down that line.”

UNLV, ranked #12 in ACHA D1, is taking on #8 ranked Colorado here Thursday night. The Colorado players coach Greener is referring to include #21 Matt Anders with 14 goals, #77 Ryan McAuliffe with 7 goals and #10 Trace Jablin with 9 goals.

“I would say that line produces 50% of Colorado’s goals. They are good working together. Defensively we need to do something about it,” Greener said.

UNLV this weekend is playing in their final games of the first semester. UNLV vs Colorado is tomorrow night then the Rebels close out the weekend with two road games vs Colorado State.

UNLV’s travel plans go like this: practice in Las Vegas on Wednesday 8 am, get onto a flight to Colorado, take the Rebels players to see a NHL game featuring the Winnipeg Jets vs the Colorado Avalanche “as a fun team outing” and then prepare to play in a three-game weekend.

UNLV’s premier goalie Ben Giesbrecht (7-4-0, 2.18 gaa, 92.2% save percentage) will get the start vs Colorado. The Rebels also announced Zach Schlitt would see action due to Jonas Gordon’s suspension during the Utah series. Colorado is coached by Eric Ballard who has been a top coach at various levels of the game for years.

Colorado State has a 6-4 win over its greatest rival Colorado.

After these games UNLV will take a semester break and return to action Feb 2-3 with games against Arizona State.

Winnipeg – Jason Zucker of Las Vegas scored first, then teammate Chris Stewart scored to give the NHL Minnesota Wild a quick two-goal lead. It was Jason’s 13th goal this season. Then the NHL Winnipeg Jets turned it up scoring seven in a row to win 7-2 here Monday night at the MTS Centre.

UNLV Rebels Rank Best-Ever #12 in ACHA D1 Poll

The UNLV Rebels, in their first season in the ACHA D1, are ranked at a season-best #12 today and are about to take on #8 ranked Colorado.

UNLV’s ACHA D1 record is 14-5-0. The Rebels head coach is Anthony Greener who is assisted by Nick Robone. In their next game the Rebels go onto the road to take on the Eric Ballard-coached University of Colorado on Thursday, November 30.

Earlier this season – in their first ever games ever in ACHA D1 – UNLV lost to Colorado 3-0, then beat them 3-2 at the City National Bank Arena in Las Vegas.

UNLV’s big road trip to Colorado looks like this:

Thursday, November 30 – at Colorado

Friday, December 1 – at Colorado State

Saturday, December 2 – at Colorado State

The ACHA D1 Top 5 ranked teams in order are Adrian, Minot, Lindenwood, Ohio and Robert Morris. UNLV has a win over Minot which at the time was ranked #1.

Final Score – San Jose Sharks 4, Vegas Golden Knights 5 at T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas

//VGK worked to a 4-1 lead, Sharks rallied to tie 4-4, scored a go ahead goal which officials rubbed out (goalie interference) and Golden Knights scored late to win it.

Final – OT/Shootout – Colorado Avalanche 2, Jason Zucker of Las Vegas and Minnesota Wild 3 at X-Cel Energy Center, St. Paul, Minnesota
