#15 ranked UNLV 5
#13 ranked Jamestown 3
Las Vegas – Elijiah Barriga who played years ago in the AAA Anaheim Jr Ducks hockey program and then with the NAHL Amarillo Bulls and BCHL Salmon Arm Silverbacks, scored two goals early to help UNLV beat an awesome power in ACHA D1 Jamestown 5-3 on Thursday night at City National Arena. The Rebels got an tremendous effort defensively including strong play from goalie Alex Feese who is from Colorado Springs and in his sophomore season with the Rebels.
UNLV is now 8-4-0 in its first season of ACHA D1 hockey and next takes on #1 ranked Minot of North Dakota here Friday and Saturday. Minot has a record of 13-0-0 and like many strong powerful teams has been locked into a large number of low scoring defensive firefights.
UNLV, in its rich successful history of hockey in Las Vegas has never faced a #1 ranked team like Minot on home ice.
Team rankings are ultra important in ACHA D1. There are 60 teams in action and the Top 20 ranked teams move on to the playoffs following the regular season.
Also the win over Jamestown gives the Rebels a 6-1-0 record on home ice at the brand new City National Arena.
The Rebels, who have played some very tough, rugged teams this season have out-scored opposing teams 55-40 which is a significant statistic.

Nick said “I am excited. I’ve been ready for a few weeks now but I’m glad to be part of the game day experience again. It’s a big weekend for our program and we are looking to make a statement.”

UNLV Hockey Supporters, Friends, and Families,
We have a very exciting weekend coming up, with a first ever match-up against the current #1 Ranked team in the country. In the most recent ranking, UNLV lands at #15 in ACHA D1, with one of the tougher remaining schedules in the country. There are 60 D1 teams currently, and not many first year teams have ever made the immediate impact that we have here at UNLV.
For those of you that have been to one of our home games this season, at the beautiful City National Arena, you are well aware of the excitement, and quality of play. The crowds have been great. We have a great group of kids, that are nowhere near playing to their full potential YET.
This weekend we are planning to partner with the Folded Flag Foundation, to honor our Veterans. We will have a limited edition jersey that will be auctioned off, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Folded Flag Foundation. The auction will take place prior to the Thursday game vs. #13 Jamestown University, through the end of the Friday night game vs. #1 Minot State University. Details will be available on www.RebelHockey.com. The auction will be held on our social media platforms via Facebook and Twitter (@UNLVRebelHockey).
Also, this Thursday evening (during the UNLV Hockey game) the Rebel Business Network will also be hosting an evening at City National Arena, the official home of UNLV Rebel Hockey and practice facility for the Vegas Golden Knights. Attendees can mix and mingle with fellow UNLV alumni and learn about the unique partnership between UNLV Rebel Hockey and the Vegas Golden Knights from 5-7pm. Guests will be able to tour the facility with Rebel Hockey players serving as tour guides. After the mixer, stay for the game when Rebel Hockey takes on the University of Jamestown. A game ticket is included complimentary with a registration for the mixer. https://www.unlvalumni.org/rbn-mixer.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone out at our games this weekend in support of our Armed Forces, and your Skatin’ Rebels!
