Las Vegas – In one of the greatest team performances in Las Vegas hockey history at any level of the game the UNLV Rebels got clutch goals from Joseph Kaszupski and Tristan Mayer plus an awesome effort from goalie Ben Giesbrecht to beat #1 ranked Minot 2– l on Friday night at the City National Arena.

Minot came into this game with a record of 14-0-0 and had taken apart ASU by seven goals on Thursday night.

The City National Arena was sold out and the game had a blue-spark electric playoff feel to it. The game winning goal was set up by Kaszupski who fired a cross-ice pass to Mayer who scored.

It is staggering to have UNLV play at such a high level in its first season of ACHA D1.  The Rebels roster was constructed by head coach Anthony Greener and his top assistant coach Nick Robone.

Rebels GM Zee Khan said “we knew we had the talent to win a game like this. Is  this the greatest win of all time in Las Vegas hockey history — I would say yes.”

Rebels head coach Anthony Greener said “for our program this is by far our biggest win in our program history. But the job is not over yet. If we can win two games against the best team in the country it will really put our program on the map. I’m proud of our players and staff.”

Rebels coach Nick Robone added “this is really is a great win for our program and what we are trying to accomplish. We are proud of our team and hoping for a similar effort against Minot here on Saturday night.”
