It is back on the highway for the UNLV Rebels. The players practiced on Wednesday morning, had breakfast, got onto a team bus and headed to Salt Lake City. There they will take on a fierce rival in Utah on Thursday evening and face Canisius on Friday night at the Salt Lake Sports Complex.

UNLV has two wins over Utah already – but that was in their comfort zone at the sold out City National Arena in Las Vegas.

“We are expecting Utah to come out strong on Thursday night,” said UNLV’s head coach Anthony Greener. “They are a gritty team and like to throw their weight around. And they normally have a pretty big crowd. Regarding Canisius we need to be ready to play 60 minutes and buy into our systems.”

UNLV is coming off a historic week splitting games with #1 ranked Minot and beating nationally ranked Jamestown.  UNLV is 7-2-0 on home ice, 2-3-0 away from home.

The official ACHA D1 team records look like this: UNLV is 9-5-0, Canisius 6-10-0, Utah 4-12-0.

UNLV goalies Ben Giesbrecht and Alex Feese will get starts in Salt Lake City coach Greener noted.

The big UNLV bus will be on a six hour, 420-mile journey and roll into Salt Lake City about 7 pm tonight – Wednesday. There will be a Rebels team dinner, some chalk talk, then the players get set for games on Thursday and Friday.

Outside of the arena it will be chilly with rain showers.
