UNLV’s premiere defenseman Jake Kearley getting nominating votes – a lot of them – as are first-day nominating votes for the Rebels coaches, Anthony Greener and assistant Nick Robone for the 2017 Vegas Hockey Awards….A.J. Lackas getting All Heart votes. A.J. skates for the Wally Lacroix-coached AA Vegas Golden Knights bantam team…UNLV getting votes for Best Music…The T-Mobile Arena getting votes for Best Arena in town….

Megan Myers, Ash Printzen getting votes as well – Megan plays pro hockey for the Boston Blades; Ash skates for the AAA Detroit Belle Tire Elite 16u team. Ash’s brother Cody plays for the WSHL Fresno Monsters. Cody is also a premier roller hockey player who skated for Team USA this past summer.

Best rink coffee? We like the coffee at the LV Ice Center but no votes in yet for that category.

During the weekend the Adam Stio-coached Las Vegas Calvary lost two road games to the Nor Cal Ice Raiders 11-2, 12-1. “Tough weekend with some of our players injured right now,” coach Stio said. The Calvary return to action January 5-6 on home ice at the City National Arena.

That was Johnny Kemp, a star player years ago for the AAA L.A. Jr Kings, who was head coach of the AA L.A. Kings bantam team which played in the Silver Stick Regional at the Las Vegas Ice Center. Kemp skated – and scored a lot of goals – for various AAA L.A. Kings youth hockey teams including three of them which won U.S. National Championship gold medals.


Las Vegas defenseman Eric Williams last season was a star player – and a captain as well – for the WSHL Ontario Avalanche. This season Eric is playing for NCAA lll Chatham University. Great athlete, team leader.
