Salt Lake City – Guess what – snow is in the forecast this weekend and the nationally ranked UNLV Rebels are coming off an unbearable minus-25 or so road trip in North Dakota. And, not all of the Rebels are on this road trip.
“This weekend is extremely important,” said Anthony Greener, head coach of the Rebels. “We had a great week of practice trying to get back on track. However we have some key players out of the lineup this weekend due to injuries. So others will have to step up and get onto the levels we know they can be on.”
#11 ranked UNLV, which plays Utah in Friday and Saturday night games, has beaten Utah three times – 8-0, 10-6, 5-1 this season – but historically teams like Utah, which is 6-16-0 in its troubling season, can kick it in and cause issues on the ice here at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.
The Rebels had practice on Thursday, then got onto the team bus and went from Las Vegas straight to Salt Lake City. There was a team dinner, then the Rebels play the waiting game until faceoff here Friday night.
“We wanted to be a rested team coming here,” Greener said. “These are important games.”
Alex Feese, who is having a great season, will start in the net tonight for the Rebels.
