Las Vegas – Boulder Bison coach James Mecure blueprinted a new tactical game plan to help his club get past the Vegas Jr Golden Knights bantams in a Gold Medal game in the President’s Day Tournament today at the Las Vegas Ice Center.

The Bisons used wide entry points to move the puck over the blue line each time enroute to a 4-1 win.

“We wanted to stretch Las Vegas defensively,” Mercure said after the game. “So we went wide in our attack game. We also played with a lot more grit that we did the first time we played Las Vegas here in this tournament.”

Wally Lacroix, the Vegas Hockey Coach of the Year, and his club beat Boulder earlier in this tournament. Las Vegas got a goal from gifted goal scorer William Jacob who took a crossing pass and fired a blast of a shot from the right side. Jacob is a very strong player, great skater and who makes hockey-smart decisions with the puck.

Mecure said the Boulder Bisons have “five bantam teams in our hockey program.”

“This is our AA Boulder bantam team which played here today, the best bantam team we have and the one we are sending to the Rocky Mountain Regionals,” he said.

From the Blue Line – An early-game Boulder goal was rubbed out because the net was off its hooks….There was a big festive crowd who chanted ‘Go Knights Go’ during the game…Referee Chris Crowley called some checking from behind penalties. “A player who gets hit from behind doesn’t have an opportunity to defend himself. That is the reason we call it when we see it happen on the ice,” Chris said….Sam Braniff, one of the greatest UNLV Rebels goal scorers of all time, was on the bench with the Orange County Hockey Club 10u team….Evan Zucker, one of the great Las Vegas goal scorers and his brother Adam – who battled in the biggest of games – are the coaches of the Vegas Jr Golden Knights Bantam A team…
