Columbus, Ohio –  Star goalie Ben Giesbrecht will get the start for the UNLV Rebels who take on #20-seed Drexel University in their opening game Thursday at the ACHA D1 Nationals. Giesbrecht is a premier goalie with a record of 10-4-0, 2.21 gaaa and a 91.6% save percentage.

Giesbrecht, 21, is from Vancouver. He is listed at 6’1, 220. He played previously with the AJHL Olds Grizzlys in Olds, Alberta, Canada. He played in 67 games in two seasons as a starting goalie with Olds Grizzlys.

UNLV in its debut season in ACHA D1 went 21-9-0 during the regular season to get a #13 seed in the 20-team Nationals. Minot State, a team UNLV beat during the regular season, is the #1 seed.

Faceoff for UNLV’s opening game here is 2:15 pm local time.

The winner of UNLV vs Drexel will take on #4 seed Ohio University.

The games this week will be played at the Ohio Health Chiller Rinks.
