Las Vegas – UNLV Rebels head coach Anthony Greener liked what he saw on the ice in a Rebels scrimmage game before a large hometown crowd Friday night at City National Arena.
“We watched the game from the stands and overall we are excited of what we brought to the table this year recruiting wise. Nick Jeff and myself did a really good job getting the right players – not only on the ice but the community as well.
“Super excited about our returning core as well. These players are getting better each year.
“We like a lot of our players and don’t like to single them out but Paxton Malone had a very good game and Trevor, a transfer from Jamestown had a great game as well,” Greener said. “We are super deep – we have 18 forwards for 12 spots, 10 D for six spots and five goalies for four spots.”
Greener added ‘My job is tougher as a coach because we’re so deep. But in the end it is only going to make our program better.”
Greener sized up new goalie Jesse Gordichuk saying ‘he’s a true big athlete with a big statue and is very well positioned in the net.”
Paxton Malone, 21, was a 27-goal scorer for the KIJHL Spokane Braves last winter.
