Special to Vegas Hockey

Las Vegas – Bryce Woodward and Zach Lawson scored twice and Big Ben Giesbrecht was strong in the net as the Anthony Greener-coached UNLV Rebels beat Colorado University 6-3 in the season-opening game on Friday night at a sold out City National Arena.

The two teams play again today – Saturday – at City National. Faceoff 2:30 pm.

Woodward is from Canada, Lawson from Montana.

UNLV captain Cody Williams scored as did Sean Plonski. Rebels goalie Big Ben Giesbrecht stopped 35 of 38 shots to get the win in a game which had a physical twist to it when Colorado fell behind.

In the ACHA D1 pre-season poll Colorado was ranked #8 nationally, UNLV #12.
