Special to Vegas Hockey
There is danger in every game. UNLV Rebels head coach Anthony Greener knows all about that. For years he was a UNLV captain and skated with the Rebels against great teams and not so great teams who unexpectedly ignited and turned it up.
Which brings us to invading Arizona State ACHA D1 which comes into town to take on UNLV on Friday and Saturday at the City National Arena. Arizona had some scary times – meaning good, but not great – getting by Grand Canyon ACHA D2 of Phoenix by 4-2, then losing to them 6-5 in OT last weekend.
UNLV, since going northbound to the ACHA D1 level of play has never lost to Arizona State – winning games 3-1, 3-2, 8-2 and 6-4 last season.
“Last year Arizona State could turn it up and get physical while doing it,” Greener said. “This is a new season and we’re not sure what to really expect. To me there are like a wild card team in our division – half of the players are new and they have a new coaching staff.”
“Regarding our team our big record last season is behind us. That season is in the past. For this weekend we want to clean up a few tactical and positioning things on the ice in regards to the two games against Arizona State.
“Using our speed and chemistry on home ice will mean a lot,” Greener
From the Blue Line – UNLV starting goalies will be announced…
Game times are Friday 7:30 pm, Saturday, 2:30 pm….Colorado,
here last weekend, has to deal with mega power Minot State this
weekend in a pair of games.
