Las Vegas – It’s rare when a team like Grand Canyon University – which plays in ACHA D2 – can compete at such a high level against the bigger stronger teams in ACHA D1.

That’s the challenge UNLV Rebels head coach Anthony Greener faces tonight when GCU invades City National Arena to take on the Rebels in a two-game weekend series.

“They are a hard working team with lots of skill at the D2 level. They haven’t lost to a D2 team this season and have beaten D1 level teams,” Greener said. “We have our work cut out for us this weekend. We just have to play our game and lean on our crowd as well.”

Grand Canyon from Phoenix is in its second season. They went 20-5 last year, qualified for the ACHA D2 Western Regionals and won one game there before getting eliminated.

This season Grand Canyon is 7-3-1.

UNLV is 6-2-0 overall and is ranked ACHA D1 #10.

UNLV goalie Jesse Gordichuk will get the start on Friday night.

The top line will be captain Cody Williiams with Bryce Woodward and Joe Kazupski with defensemen Eric Wiliams and Bas Assaf.

From the Blue Line – UNLV’s top line has scored 16 times this season…Grand Canyon has an OT/Shootout win over Arizona State D1. Grand Canyon last season was ranked #9 in ACHA D2 West.
