Las Vegas – See what ultra-skilled skating can do…. UNLV Rebels head coach Anthony Greener watched his #10-ranked UNLV Rebels out-slick Grand Canyon University with all sorts of high speed tricky maneuvering in a 4-0 win before a sold out crowd at City National Arena on Friday night.

Grand Canyon, an ACHA D2 team on a hot run from Phoenix, looked imposing early but was shut down for much of the game. UNLV goalie Jesse Gordichuk got the win – his 3rd of this season – and he got his first shutout victory.

“We played good and did the little things right which was great to see,” Greener said after the game. “We have to bear down and score even more goals on Saturday night.”

UNLV raised its season record to 7-2-0.

UNLV had no problem driving deep into the Grand Canyon attack areas. However, it got dicey near the end of the game when hard checks were delivered by both teams.

From the Blue Line – Coach Greener said he “really liked” the line of Paxton, Moeller and Turcotte….and noted that Rebels d-man Tommy Harrison “played very well.”….Rebels defenseman Eric Williams hockey smart and very strong in this game…Joe Kaszupski’s wicked backhand shot for a goal was the best we’ve seen all season…Great to see Ryan Townsend officiating in this game. Years ago he was quite a hockey prospect here in Las Vegas. The officiating crew in this game was Lewis, Rocco and Townsend – an excellent group who collectively worked hard and kept the game on the right path….Las Vegas hockey dad Tony Robone was expecting best friend and Las Vegas roller hockey coaching legend Larry Sanford at the game “….Larry said he would be coming, then didn’t. Darn, I wanted him to see our UNLV team.”…UNLV and Grand Canyon go at it again here Saturday night.
