Minot, N.D. – The #16-ranked UNLV Rebels travelled from Jamestown, N.D. northwest on Highway 52 to face the #18-ranked Minot State Beavers who came into this game 5-4-2. The puck was dropped and the Beavers began to take charge of the game. UNLV goalie Jesse Gordichuk was tested right away as the Beavers were on a power play as UNLV’s Bryce Woodward went to the box on an interference call. UNLV killed off the power play but it was Minot State’s Kilian scoring at 16:51 of the period. Quickly back into the UNLV zone the Beavers scored back to back goals at 15:42 by Gejdos and again at 14:48 by Navrot. Needing to regroup UNLV used their one timeout. Gordichuk had faced nine shots and allowed three goals in four minutes. Minot applied pressure consistently throughout the first and scored their 4th goal by Swedlo.
After a series of penalties UNLV got back to playing their fast paced game plan. Trevor Pereverzoff created a big turnover in the neutral zone. This allowed Cody to get the puck from Kameron Fink and put it into the back of the net for the first Rebel goal at 2:33. After the goal UNLV had a 5 on 3 advantage, from a game misconduct and a slashing minor penalty. The second period began with the 5 on 3 advantage but the Minot State Beavers killed it off. Early in the second period Rebel Jake Saxe took a huge hit to his helmet from Minot’s Wowryk resulting in a five minute major. Saxe was taken off the ice and he did not return. Throughout the second period UNLV had several odd man rush opportunities but the game with a score of Minot 4, UNLV 1 going into the intermission.
Late penalties at the end of the second period put the Rebels back on a power play at the start of the third period. It did not take Kameron Fink long to find the back of the net for the second Rebels goal of the game – assisted by Cody Williams. More Minot State penalties gave the Rebels a man advantage in the middle of the third period but it was huge hit to Rebels goalie Jesse Gordchuk which stopped play. Another five minute major was accessed and Rebels goalie Erik Eidissen entered the game. With 1:24 left in the game the Rebels pulled Eidissen for an extra attacker. Cody Williams was charged for slashing with 1:05 left in the game. UNLV ended the period fighting off a 5 on 3 powerplay. The final score was Minot State 4, UNLV 2. The Beavers had 27 shots on goal, the Rebels tallied 30 shots on goal.
