Special to Vegas Hockey

The UNLV Rebels are off to Chicago today to play in the Chicago Classic which begins on Saturday. UNLV will take on Alabama, Illinois will face Rhode Island. The winners of those Saturday games will play in a gold medal game on Sunday. The games will be played at Johnny’s Ice House. These will be the final two games of the first semester for the Rebels who are 9-4-0 overall.

“This is a huge weekend,” said UNLV head coach Anthony Greener. “We really didn’t play that well in Minot – the effort was there but we were a very undisciplined team. We cannot have this with the teams we are playing. And, the first step for us is the Alabama game. They are a smaller team but fast and skilled which we really haven’t faced this season.

“We will have Benny (Ben Giesbrecht) back in net but some completely different lines because of injuries. We will have a pre-game skate and determine who will be in our lineup.

“Chicago is an awesome place to be. We are playing in a Showcase for the first time and we have an opportunity to win the championship.”
