Tempe, Arizona – The UNLV Rebels looked to build on last night’s success with their second game versus Arizona State Sun Devils. Starting in goal for the Rebels was Erik Eidissen and he looked good right from the puck drop. The Sun Devils stepped up their game and were able to match the Rebels shot for shot at even strength.

It was was UNLV’s Joe Kaszupski scoring first, assisted by D’Andre John and Kameron Fink with 4:00 left in the first period. The tic-tac-toe goal came on an ASU miscue in the neutral zone setting up an open side goal. Playing even strenght in the first period, Arizona did keep its pace with a fast Rebels team.

Throughout the second period, it was more shot for shot, back and forth between the two teams. Both goaltenders stopped fast, difficult puck shots from several angles. But it was UNLV who broke through the second period stalemate with 5:43 left. Jonah Pearson found a hole on the far side as he took advantage of a Sun Devils turnover in the neutral zone. Assisted by John and Jordan Rea, the Rebels played aggressive in the forecheck and it paid off. The final four minutes, UNLV played down a man as back to back penalities put them on a penalty kill. Eidissen was perfect in the net on the kill, facing some fast, close shots on goal.

There was no rest in the third period, as Tristan Mayer scored 54 seconds in, assisted by Chase Torontow and John. The 1-2-3 play by the Rebels was nearly identical to the previous scoring goal in the second period. Arizona would not go away quietly as they battled against the Rebels and the choppy ice that kept the puck jumping off their sticks. Jared Turcotte had an excellent steal in the neutral zone, going right into the Sun Devils zone, keeping the play alive in the offensive area. With 4 minutes left in the game, the Sun Devils finally got on board, playing 4 x 4 on a breakaway opportunity. D’Andre was not finished yet, adding the 4th UNLV goal with 2:15 left in the game. Assisted by Eric Williams and Pearson. UNLV stayed focused the entire 60 minutes of this game, leading to a solid win over the Sun Devils.
