When did UNLV first have a hockey team
The UNLV Rebels were formed and began playing games in 2005-06. Anthony Greener, now the head coach, played on the top line for UNLV in its very first game vs UCLA at the Santa Fe Stations Ice Arena which later was shut down. The Santa Fe Stations Ice Arena overhead scoreboard, rinkboards and one Zamboni were sent over to the SoBe Ice Arena on North Rancho Drive. Sobe’s first Zamboni driver was the famous Buddy Caron whose hockey son JC Caron was a top goal scorer for years here in Las Vegas.
Eddie Kawa was the Rebels first head coach and the first year Rebels went 18-5-1 in ACHA D2.
Rob Pallin coached UNLV for five seasons from 2007-2012. The Rebels with Pallin as coach got their first Top 20 ranking in 2007 season. Back then San Diego State was a massive rival bringing top, fierce teams before sellout crowds in Las Vegas – Lee
