Special to Vegas Hockey
“It’s insane here at KU – we beat #2 ranked Air Force Academy twice by 9-5, 9-2, and now we’re going on a straight ride to the US Nationals,” said Jimmy Samuels of Las Vegas – president of the #1 ranked University of Kansas hockey team which is 20-0-1.
KU’s regular season is over – the only games left are the Border War battles vs Missouri which will not affect KU’s #1 ranking in the Pacific Division.
This is Jimmy’s 3rd season at KU. He played a bit in his first season, wearing jersey number 10 – the same number worn by his uncle Eddie Samuels.
Jimmy became a GM of KU in his second season and is now President of the team.
KU includes the dynamic 38-goal scorer Dane Johnson who grew up in the AAA Omaha Lancers tier hockey program. Dane is listed at 6’1, 190. He is just 20 years old. Linemate Dawson Engle has 28 goals.
“By beating the #2 team Air Force means we do not have to go to ACHA D3 regionals. We have a spot in the U.S. Nationals – we’re going to The Show for the first time in our hockey history,” Jimmy said. “We’ve had good chemistry all season, great coaching, big goal scorers, tremendous team leaders, play together as a team in the biggest of games – all of the great stuff it takes to be a champion.”
KU’s head coach is Anderson McConnell. Chase Pruitt is assistant coach
