USA Hockey today announced UNLV Freshman Jared Turcotte will play for Team USA in the Winter World University Games March 1-9 in Russia. Jared is one of only three Freshmen selected –  the roster includes 7 NCAA Division One players, the others are from ACHA D1. Jared is the first UNLV player in program history to be selected. Team USA will play against the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Slovakia and Japan plus playoff rounds. Jared, 21, is from Moorpark, California. He has 9 goals, 12 assists for the UNLV Rebels.

UNLV GM Zee Khan tonight said “we as a staff are very proud of Jared. It is a big honor to represent USA Hockey, and also UNLV, while playing in Russia. We are also very proud of all of our players who were considered for this. We have some amazing student athletes who also deserve to go – a testament to where our program is now. We know Jared will represent our program, his teammates and the Las Vegas hockey community well.”‘

Jared, 21, is listed at 6’1, 185. He played in the AAA California Titans tier program, then with NAHL Bismarck Bobcats, BCHL Salmon Arm Silverbacks and BCHL Chilliwack Chiefs before coming to UNLV.
