JR. GOLDEN KNIGHTS D-MAN REDOBLE SIGNS WITH THUNDERBIRDS

by Scott Ludwig

2019 Deserest Oasis High School graduate Caesar “Sammy” Redoble has committed to the Las Vegas Thunderbirds for the 2019-20 season. The blueliner has plenty of experience playing with the Junior Golden Knights program, including the 2018 USA Hockey Nationals U16 team. He also played the past two seasons in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League with the JGK team.

Redoble was at the recent Tri-City Storm camp where his play confirmed his signing with Coach Hyrsky.

“He made good decisions with the puck , made a good first pass and seems to know his way in the d-zone,” said Hyrsky. “He played a responsible game and will definitely be an asset to our team.”

Eddie Del Grosso (red) in action vs a mean-spirited defenseman

===================================================
Star defenseman Eddie Del Grosso of Las Vegas was a giant goal scorer starting years ago when he played for the AA Las Vegas Mustangs 17u team in 2001-02. We asked Eddie what were your greatest goals and he said this was one of the best he ever had. Eddie has scored at every level he has ever played. Now, we take you back to March, 18, 2002 in the Pacific District gold medal game. We were there to see one of the greatest games ever played by a Las Vegas team – Lee

WE’RE HEADING TO THE U.S. NATIONALS!!!!

By Lee Samuels

Valencia, California – Talk about pressure. Up one precious goal, 1:30 to play, defending against a forest-fire 6-on-3 attack….

That’s when Las Vegas defenseman Eddie Del Grosso somehow, someway got control of the puck. He chipped a shot ceiling-high. Then he stood, cocked his helmet and watch the flight of the silent puck towards the empty enemy net.

The puck came down, bounced hard, skittered about and went slowly into the net and the red light was switched on.

That made it Las Vegas, 6-4.

And all of a sudden, with exactly 1:27 to play in a faraway rink, the Las Vegas Mustangs and every Mom, Dad and little one knew the team not only was going to win the game, but was heading to the Tier II U.S. Nationals next month in San Jose.

Rob Pallin’s Las Vegas Mustangs beat a strong, proud, incredibly-tough Anchorage Jr. Aces team, 6-5, to win the Pacific District Tier II regional championship at the twin-sheet Ice Station Arena Sunday afternoon.

How big is it?

Las Vegas had never even won a regional game in 17-and-under hockey, that’s how big. Now the Mustangs have qualified for the Tier II national tournament.

CONAWAY SIGNS WITH HOMETOWN TBIRDS

by Scott Ludwig

Hockey in Las Vegas is nothing new. Professional hockey was played on the campus of UNLV beginning in 1993 when the IHL welcomed the Las Vegas Thunder. With the arrival of the NHL the area has seen a surge in opportunities for players to play at home.

Darion Conaway is one of those players – he’s the latest local product to sign with the Las Vegas Thunderbirds. He caught the attention of Thunderbirds coach Dave Hyrsky at a recent USHL camp.

“Darion is another local product who we had a chance to see at the Tri-City Storm camp,” said Hyrsky. “Darion has explosive speed and moves the puck well. He is one of those players who can play defense on the power play and play a good two-way game up front.”

Before he puts on the Thunderbirds jersey Conaway has a trip to Hawaii in July. He is a member of the Sin City Barons inline hockey team from Las Vegas which will compete at the Junior Olympics.
