UNLV’S HEAT SWITCH ON HIGH
By Lee Samuels
Las Vegas – 4-Time Vegas Hockey Coach of the Year Anthony Greener has blue-penciled some mighty team goals for this season: one of them is to be ranked #10 or better in the ACHA D1 National Rankings.
And to do that, the UNLV Rebels must turn up the heat switch to high high to beat invading Grand Valley University here at City National Arena on Friday night, 7 pm.
“Of course there is pressure to win and reach your team goals. That is what it’s all about,” Greener noted.
Earlier this season in a road game UNLV gutted it out in OT, getting a goal from captain Bas Assaf to beat GVU.
“We need to have a much better work ethic than we did in our first game against them,” coach Greener said. “So that starts with us playing our style. We need to match them physically.”
UNLV is off to a 4-1 start this season.
Jake Saxe, Jared Turcotte and Kane Toriumi will work on the top line on Friday night.
UNLV’s d-man Eric Williams is unquestionably one of the best ever defensemen in the history of the Rebels program.
Freshman goalie Dorian Laganiere will get the start on Friday. This is a two-game weekend series with the second game here on Saturday.
From the Blue Line – Freshman d-man Jake McKenna – who is fun to track during a game – may get a start in the Saturday game. Jake grew up playing hockey here in town and won many awards as a top defenseman for the WSHL Las Vegas Storm.
