Jamestown, N.D. – It’s hard to win in ACHA D1 hockey, it’s harder to win on the home rinks of the Jamestown Jimmies and the powerful ACHA D1 dynasty Minot State. That is what UNLV hockey coach Anthony Greener is facing as the Rebels are in the world of cold, hard, icy weather against teams which relish in the snowy windstorms.
On Thursday, the Rebels play at the Jamestown Jimmies at the John L Wilson Arena, then comes two straight road games against Minot State.
And what is a Jamestown Jimmie?
“Jimmie means pride, tradition, first class, family, community, hard work” according to their glossy hockey media guide.
In other words, big trouble.
Jamestown, in their orange and black road jerseys, beat Minot twice earlier this season.
UNLV head coach Anthony Greener said “it’s always tough going on the road especially in places like Jametown and Minot in North Dakota. We are out of their surroundings and really not used to their elements. Like it feels like 6 degrees here right now.”
Greener added “although we haven’t had much success here this is a different type of a UNLV team in that we have a great mindset. We still need to play our game and be more physical.”
Goalie Erik Eidissen will start for UNLV against Jamestown.
The #1 Rebels line will be a great one – Jared Turcotte, Kane Toriumi and Jake Saxe.
