IS TOMAS URBANEC THE BEST – OR ONE OF THE BEST – LAS VEGAS GOAL SCORER OF OUR TIME….

By Lee Samuels

Las Vegas –  Like the great ones do Tomas Urbanec of the WSHL Las Vegas Thunderbirds makes goal scoring look so easy – the way the great ones here in town like Jason Zucker, Micah Sanford, Adam Naglich, Josh Jasek, Chris Francis and Anthony Greener used to do when they played the game here.

On Saturday night  Urbanec, 20, 6’2 and 185, from Czech Republic scored the first two goals and made it seemed like it was no big deal – even after going coast to coast moving and weaving around rugged defensemen while he and his teammates battled fiercely to lead the WSHL Las Vegas Thunderbirds to a 3-1 win over the San Diego Sabers before a festive crowd which was really into the game at the Sobe Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Urbanec has scored 144 goals in the WSHL, mostly with the WSHL Long Beach Bombers where he played three seasons. The Bombers shut down their operations over the summer and Urbanec came to Las Vegas.

Lucky us…

Las Vegas worked hard to beat San Diego. The Thunderbirds got a great effort from goalie Owen Kennedy.

JJ Williamson of Las Vegas scored the third and decisive goal for the T-Birds from the slot area – a powerplay quick strike which blasted into the net.

Game Three of this weekend series will be at the Sobe Ice Arena on Sunday, 1 pm
