In 2008-2009 – I was playing in Wenatchee, Wa. for Paul Baxter. He was an old time hockey guy. He roughly had 1500 penalty minutes in the NHL and already coached 12 seasons in the NHL. The favorites in the league that year were the St Louis Bandits and Fairbanks Ice Dogs. We were in our first year as an organization. Our team quickly developed a big rivalry with Josh Hauges Fairbanks Ice Dogs. They had a really good team. West Coast guys Austin Block and Michael Juola were on it. Our team was good too, we had 2 guys in the NHL draft that year and roller legend Jr Cadiz. That year Eddie Samuels was Fairbanks associate coach. Eddie and I would always talk about Vegas hockey players and back home before our weekend games. Both of our teams would end up having good seasons and make it to the Western Division Championship , with us winning the series in a game 3 overtime. After that Fairbanks game I remember the autograph table line being extra long. Which was normal for Wenatchee. Wenatchee was known for huge crowds. This night it was extra long and from a ways I hear “Corby, Corby can I get a picture”. I look up and there was Rob Pallin. Coach Rob was coach to all the Vegas hockey players in Santa Fe days. For him to see me play one of my last hockey games was great. Our team would move on to lose to the 3 peat champ St Louis Bandits in the Robertson Cup.
